Symptoms

1. Suspect redirection of Smart Cards is not working since the logon screen shows no available smart cards when clicking on the 'smart card logon option' icon. Steps to Reproduce (for bugs) Enable 'Smart Cards' for Remote Desktop connection in connection options section 'Redirect'. Connect to a Windows Server by opening the connection.
2. Fixes an issue in which the smart card redirection does not work in remote sessions when you use the RDP 8.1 client on a computer that is running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Apr 16, 2021 I've been using Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac to connect to a windows machine. I used to be able to redirect a smart card to the remote windows computer. I recently upgraded the RDP app on Mac and now the option to redirect a smart card is greyed out. I've tried removing and re-adding the card but no luck. Has anyone seen this behavior before?

Assume that you install the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) 8.1 client update KB 2830477 on a computer that is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. You remotely connect the computer to a Windows 8.1-based or Windows Server 2012 R2-based Remote Desktop Host server, and then you enable the smart card redirection in the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connection. In this situation, when you try to use the smart card in the remote session, the smart card is not available and you receive the following error message:

Additionally, you can't establish a connection to a remote computer by using the smart card logon method.
